This 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' Song Is The Next Viral Hit

"Having a Few People Over" is the new embed for all party invites.

If you haven’t been keeping up with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, it’s your loss. The show is only 10 episodes in, so you have plenty of time to catch up. Lead actress and creator Rachel Bloom has been knocking it out of the park all season, with some songs that have exploded the realities of feminism or party prep.

But some of the best songs on the show have actually been tracks written to explore secondary characters. Especially a shockingly painful piano-bar rock number from side romantic lead Greg Serrano or this fearful inner-monologue about Josh’s current girlfriend and her sexual prowess.

One of the most difficult characters to develop this season has been the boss, Darryl Whitefeather. This divorced dad finally got a proper introduction to the rest of the cast in Episode Nine, “I’m Going to the Beach with Josh and His Friends!*, a bottle episode that forced Darryl to finally make some connections with the group. Attempting to build on that success, Darryl entered the newest episode by planning a small get-together for friends.

This Darryl track is pretty obviously designed to go viral, and you can bet it’ll be embedded in every party invite I send out for the rest of 2016. At just over a minute and requiring no context about the show, I think you’ll see what I mean.

Again. Watch the show. It isn’t sexist. That’s been a trick and the opening song should get you on board. This is as good as anything The Lonely Island ever unleashed an on unsuspecting internet.

You don’t have to take our word for it though. Feel free to listen to every show this award season.
