A Difficult Childhood In A Remote Tribal Village

Banoth grew up in a small tribal village in India. Limited access to healthcare, education, and even basic economic infrastructure made a career in technology seem like a far-fetched dream, but this childhood on the margins of society became a driving force.

“Growing up in a rural, tribal community, I witnessed first-hand the impact of limited access to technology and data-driven insights,” Banoth recalls. “My family's struggles with necessities motivated me to pursue a career that would enable me to drive positive change.”

Despite a five-kilometer walk to school, he ranked second in an Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) competition, showing his academic promise and inspiring him further to succeed despite the odds.

But when the death of Banoth’s father shook his family to the core, his education and future were put at risk.

Fortunately, an ITDA project officer recognized Banoth’s potential and decided to sponsor his education. Thanks to this generous financial support, he was able to move to a school with an English-dominant curriculum, a pivotal moment for his future career.

Academic Ascent And A Leap To The Corporate World

At first, Banoth felt alienated at his new school, but he was determined to adapt and excelled in the competitive EAMCET entrance exam for engineering courses. His top scores gained him free admission to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), where he went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering in 2006.

At JNTU, Banoth learned to understand and simplify complex systems; not just in data but also linguistically and culturally. Surrounded by peers from more developed areas and well-off families, he experienced social disorientation, but he also saw how the technology he was learning about could offer a solution.

“I was fascinated by the potential of technology to bridge gaps and create opportunities,” he explains. “My interest in data analysis was sparked by the realization that data-driven insights could be a powerful tool for addressing social and economic disparities.”

After graduation, Banoth moved to Mumbai to begin a career as an application programmer. With no job security or place to stay, he initially lived in a Sikh Gurdwara while navigating job interviews and hunting for accommodation. It was a raw introduction to the realities of urban life, but also a symbolic turning point.

He was building from nothing, again.

But despite the rough beginning, it was the start of a successful career that has spanned nearly two decades across a wide range of industries, from finance and banking to technology.

Rising Through the Ranks to Become a Data Engineering Leader

Banoth’s career has been defined by consistent innovation, strategic thinking, and technical excellence. His deep expertise in data engineering, regulatory compliance, risk management, and automation has been vital for the many important projects he has been a part of.

While working on a complex project where manual regulatory reporting processes caused frequent delays and errors, he realized that automation could solve the issue. Years later, this experience would come full circle when he led a team that cut regulatory reporting cycles using automated data pipelines to meet global financial regulations. He contributed to several other key projects throughout his career, reducing processing times for manual credit card campaigns in one instance and automating the remediation of 20 years’ worth of data in another.

For Banoth, these successes were proof that innovation can turn persistent challenges into lasting improvements.

Today, he leads high-performance technical teams in the financial industry, and runs workshops, hackathons, and programs to pass on his knowledge. Banoth’s leadership style is focused on innovation, simplification, and empowerment — values born from his lived experiences of learning under pressure.

Turning Professional Challenges Into Opportunities

“One of my most significant challenges was adapting to new environments,” he recounts. “Transitioning from a tribal village with minimal resources to the corporate world required immense perseverance, especially when dealing with unfamiliar languages, systems, and corporate cultures.”

Entering the industry with limited exposure to cutting-edge tech required constant self-learning and upskilling. On top of his own communication issues, Banoth found himself needing to bridge the divide between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders. He solved this by simplifying technical language, offering mentorship, and building collaborative team cultures.

His early experience with global financial regulations allowed him to build compliance-focused frameworks that could optimize cloud migration while maintaining data security and governance, and his collaborative and evidence-based approach helped him gain the confidence and buy-in of key stakeholders, who were reluctant to adopt this new technology.
