It would be hard for even the least Star Wars-interested person to deny the arrival of The Force Awakens is a major cultural event.

The filmmakers have gone to great lengths to keep details concerning the movie’s plot under wraps—but with the movie premiering in Los Angeles right now (as of this writing), it’s safe to say some scoops may be coming soon.

How big is the gala event? It had actually closed a half-mile stretch of Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and La Brea Avenues.

People in attendance — which includes George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and J.J. Abrams — have seen several costumed characters (and real people, like C3PO and R2D2) make their way down the red carpet.
