Police Around the World Sure Love 'Back to the Future’ Day DeLorean Jokes

How can you tell when a joke has run its course? Surely it’s when cops start “getting in on the fun” before it quickly becomes unfunny. Show’s over kids, nothing to see here.
In what can only be described as a collective dad joke, police departments around the world are also trying to get in on the Back to the Future Day festivities. On the local level, state, and otherwise, police have taken to social media to have some yuks about either arresting someone in a DeLorean going 88 mph or just pulling the car over for exceeding the speed limit.
Others are just variations on a theme, all tying back to their supposed love of the time-traveling exploits of Marty McFly and Doc Brown. Michigan, Texas, England, Newfoundland, British Columbia, Tasmania, Australia, South Carolina … police everywhere love Back to the Future, apparently.
Just some innocent fun? Probably. Desperate ploy from authority figures to show they’re with it and hip and totally with the times? Definitely. Guys, we get it. You’re cool.
The other sad fact is that the kids who grew up loving Back to the Future are now old enough to be veterans on the police squad.
But it wouldn’t be fair to be the wet blanket on Back to the Future Day. After all it’s a day for everyone, even the PD. At least now we know the joke’s over.
