'Avengers: Endgame' Drops a Major Clue About 4 Avengers Who Could Die

The third and final Avengers: Endgame trailer is out, and a new theory claims that four of the six original Avengers will die in Endgame.

Though it’s long been speculated that Captain America might be the one to die, the new footage heavily implies that Tony Stark’s days are numbered as well. Based on the trailer, Black Widow and Hawkeye may not be far behind.

In the trailer, redditor u/TheRealBrandini97 noted how the phrase, “Whatever it takes” is repeated throughout. However, only Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye say it.

Each of these characters have gone on their own journeys and would do anything to protect Earth and the people they love. The trailer takes the time to highlight the four of them specifically.

Tony recalls his path to becoming Iron Man and his love for Pepper; there are flashbacks to Captain America’s humble beginnings; Hawkeye is seen teaching his daughter to shoot arrows; and Black Widow says they owe it to every team member lost to try and make things right. That sounds a lot like foreshadowing to us.

This theory makes a lot of sense when you factor in that Endgame is the final film Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans are contracted to appear in. Plus, both of their hero arcs reached a climax in Avengers: Infinity War, signaling their downfall.

Hawkeye, having taken on a new alias as Ronin, may make the sacrifice for his family, who were seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Sacrificing himself to stop Thanos would make his role in Endgame more meaningful.

But what about Black Widow? She’s getting her own solo film, so how could she die? Black Widow could still die following the news that her film will most likely be a prequel and wouldn’t require her to live past the events of Endgame

Notice how Thor and Hulk are specifically left out. The theory suggests only four Avengers will die, and that it’ll be the four who appeared in Captain America: Civil War.

That doesn’t mean that Thor and Hulk aren’t also willing to do what it takes to defeat Thanos, but that it won’t result in their deaths. This makes sense given their journeys have been a bit separate from the remaining Avengers.

Hulk’s set to conclude his own three-part story arc in Endgame that could culminate in his transformation into Professor Hulk

The loss of Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye would mark the end of an era and the start of a new chapter for the Marvel Cinematic Universe where new heroes, like Captain Marvel, will rise.

No matter the outcome, Endgame will make sure to honor these four Avengers and send them out as heroes.

Avengers: Endgame hits theaters April 26, 2019.
