'Pixels' vs. Twitter

Pixels opens nationwide this Friday, but it already looks like game over. The movie is clinging to a 12% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and taking hit after hit on social media. Apparently the Adam Sandler vehicle is a mash-up of a CGI blockbuster, an action flick, and a family comedy that manages to capture the worst things about all of those genres. In short, no one is happy that Pixels exists.

It’s the perfect storm for Internet ire, as it takes a beloved facet of nerd culture – ‘80s arcade games – and perverts it.
