Dragon Ball is a series filled with buff dudes, but there was one character who put the rest to shame, and he’s coming back for the 20th film in the series.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly will star the eponymous Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan. The upcoming film is the first movie in the Dragon Ball Super franchise and it will be a continuation of the animated series that ended its run on March 25. Series creator Akira Toriyama hinted that this will be a landmark movie with “a major connection to everything”, including some insight into Saiyan history. Expect to see Goku, Vegeta, Frieza Force, and of course, Broly.

Broly is best recognized for being absurdly brolic and his rather on-the-nose name, but among Dragon Ball fans, he is mostly defined by his unbridled hatred for Goku.

What did Goku do to earn Broly’s frothing rancor? Well, when he and Goku were newborns in the same delivery room, Goku’s crying pissed off baby Broly so much that he achieved his Super Saiyan form right there in the cradle.

This makes Broly somewhat of a controversial figure. Some fans dig Broly’s roided up rage vibe while others see him as a petty edgelord. Still, the dude has a loyal following, which is why Toriyama decided to make him the star of the first Super movie.

Because you see, although Broly is a pretty popular character who’s appeared in numerous Dragon Ball films and video games, he’s never once shown up in the manga or any of the four animated series. Toriyama is hoping to amend that by officially canonizing Broly with the new movie.

Broly’s dad Paragus also looks exactly like Tom Selleck. That doesn’t have anything to do with the film I just want to put that out there so everyone else can see what I’ve seen for years.

Basically Magnum P.I. if he could fly and blast ki from his hands.
