Alessia Cara is the 18-year-old Canuck singer behind “Here,” one of the best songs about not wanting to interact at a weird party in recent memory. Outside of “Here,” she hasn’t yet recorded much music outside of a number of solid covers, but that’s all gonna change now that she’s signed with Def Jam and was featured prominently in their recent industry upfront.

Much like “Here,” her songs are somewhat spare but they radiate a somewhat effortless intensity. In an interview with Pitchfork, Cara admires fellow young musicians Lorde and Raury, who Cara feels “really speak for young people.” I dare you to watch this video and not come out being all like, holy shit Alessia Cara is the shit.

Her new album, Know It All, is out this fall on Def Jam. We are living in the summer of Alessia Cara. Take a seat.
