'Unsane' Clip Shows Movie Shot Entirely on iPhone 7 Plus

"There's been some kind of mistake."

There’s a new clip from Unsane, Steven Soderbergh’s unsettling thriller starring Clarie Foy that was shot entirely on an iPhone 7 Plus.

Following the release of the Unsane trailer in January, on Monday, we see how Foy can’t quite come to grips with the fact she’s been admitted to a mental hospital without her consent.

Playing Sawyer Valentini, we see Foy following a nurse through the yellowed hallways of a hospital, saying, “There’s been some kind of mistake.”

Soon, the nurse agrees to let her make a phone call — but she doesn’t call who you think.

“Do you know how many calls the cops get like that every week?”

“Those are from crazy people,” Foy says.

Like in the trailer, scenes in this clip off the phone’s ability to capture light and warmth and motion. It as beautifully shot as it is nerve-wracking.

“I think this is the future,” Soderbergh said at the Sundance Film Festival in January. “Anybody going to see [Unsane] who has no idea of the backstory to the production will have no idea this was shot on the phone. That’s not part of the conceit.”

Interestingly, when asked for advice on how to make a movie during a reddit AMA in August 2017 ahead of the release of his caper Logan Lucky, Soderbergh offered this DIY recommendation: “Get a script and an iPhone and start shooting. Seriously.” Apparently, he had already taken his own advice.

Unsane premieres on February 21 at the Berlin International Film Festival. It opens in theaters in the United States on March 23.
