Oscar Nominations Announcement Will Have Stars, But Will It Have Dick Poop?

Tiffany Haddish and Andy Serkis will host, but never forget the iconic moment from the 2015 nominee announcement.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences

It’s awards season, and the Oscars are fast-approaching. Before the ceremony can happen, though, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences needs to announce the nominees, so moviegoers can endeavor to see all the Best Picture nominees and argue about who got snubbed. The 2018 Academy Awards — the 90th annual Oscars — aren’t until March 4, but the nominations come out on Tuesday morning, and the announcement looks to be a star-studded affair.

The Academy shared details about the announcement in a tweet on Monday, revealing that Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish and Andy Serkis, Gollum himself, would host the nominations. The two celebrities won’t be alone. Priyanka Chopra, Rosario Dawson, Gal Gadot, Salma Hayek, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana, Molly Shannon, Rebel Wilson and Michelle Yeoh will also make some sort of appearance.

The event will begin at 8:22 a.m. Eastern, and by the end of it, we should know who all the nominees are in all 24 categories. It will be available to stream on the Oscars website.

In past years, the nominee announcement “ceremony,” for lack of a better word, hasn’t been as flashy as the 2018 event looks to be. Last year, the nominations were revealed in a pre-recorded package featuring Glenn Close, Guillermo del Toro, Brie Larson, and more. It didn’t exactly have a host, so the 2018 event is already more ceremony-like than in previous years have been.

No number of celebrities, though, will top the best moment ever to come from a nominee announcement. Back in 2015, Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs and actor Chris Pine were reading the names of the nominees in a pretty dry manner when it came time for the Best Achievement in Cinematography category. The director of Mr. Turner, Dick Pope, received a nod, but Boone Isaacs flubbed the name.

“Dick Poop.” Amazing.

Anyway, the 2018 Oscar nominee announcement will be streaming at 8:22 a.m. Eastern. Jimmy Kimmel will host the actual Academy Awards ceremony on March 4 at 8 p.m. Eastern on ABC.
