One of the Main Heroes of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Is Leaving the Show

The CW

The Legends roster is about to experience another shake-up.

On Wednesday, Deadline reported that Victor Garber, who plays Dr. Martin Stein — one half of the hero Firestorm — would be leaving Legends of Tomorrow during the show’s third season. The outlet suggests that this could be due to Garber’s commitment to the Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly!, which has its first show on January 20, 2018.

Though Garber is expected to depart the show relatively soon, his exit probably won’t feel abrupt. Deadline heard that the series has plans for the character’s departure, so he should be getting a proper send-off. The early seeds of this may have been seen in the third season premiere, “Aruba-Con,” as the episode revealed that Stein was going to be a grandfather, providing a potential impetus for him to not want to risk his life so much and spend more time with his family.

As for how this exit will affect Jax (played by Franz Drameh), the other half of Firestorm, that’s unclear. Maybe Martin and Jax (played by Franz Drameh) swapping bodies, a bit that was previewed in the show’s Season 3 sizzle trailer, will end up allowing Jax to be Firestorm all by himself, even if that takes away the fun banter associated with the character.

No matter what the circumstances of Stein’s departure, though, with the time-traveling antics of Legends of Tomorrow, Garber could always come back to the show later down the line.

Legends of Tomorrow airs on Tuesdays at 9/8 Central.
