Deadpool and Cable Will Lead a Black Ops Mutant Team in 'X-Force'

Marvel

Deadpool and Cable’s roles in Fox’s Marvel universe are going to grow substantially after Deadpool 2.

On Thursday, Deadline reported that both Deadpool and Cable will be leading the titular black ops team of mutants, along with the news that Drew Goddard would write and direct the film.

As the term “black ops team of mutants” might suggest, X-Force are more prone to using lethal force than the X-Men, though some of the more kill-happy X-Men like Wolverine and Psylocke have been members of the team at some point in comics history.

According to comic book creator Rob Liefeld, Deadpool 2’s Domino (played by Zazie Beets) will also return in the movie. But it’s currently unknown who else will be on the team. Both Domino and Cable previously appeared in concept art that featured the team lineup from the script back in 2015, which also featured Warpath, Cannonball, and a hooded character who might be Rogue. But with Goddard on writing duties now, it’s unclear if any of those characters will appear.

It’s surprising that both Deadpool and Cable will be leading the team in X-Force, but it’s probably for the best. Deadpool’s not known for making the smartest, safest decisions, and Cable might be key to leveling him out.

Deadpool 2 will be released on June 1, 2018.
