Spock's Adopted Sister Stars in 'Star Trek: Discovery' Trailer

This article has been updated

Looks like Spock just got another half-sibling. In addition to Sybok —Spock’s half-brother in *Star Trek V: The Final Frontier — Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green ) of Starfleet is now technically his sister!

On Saturday, during the Star Trek: Discovery panel at San Diego Comic-Con actress Sonequa Martin-Green reportedly said her human mother is Amanda, who is also Spock’s mom. For fans who are wondering why we’ve never heard of Sarek and Amanda raising yet another sibling in secret (Kirk was pissed he’d never heard of Sybok in Star Trek V) Alex Kurtzman told the crowd that the writing staff is “aware” and that the show will stay consistent with canon.

The panel also revealed that Anthony Rapp’s openely gay character Lt. Harris will have a love interest played by Wilson Cruz.

Update: After the conclusion of the Star Trek: Discovery Comi-Con panel on Saturday, the offical Discovery Twitter account deleted two tweets which suggested that Michael Burnham is Amanda’s biological daughter. Instead, it is now reported that Burnham was adopted by Amanda and Sarek and raised by them after their humans parents died. This still means Burnham is Spock’s sister, but there is no blood (green or otherwise) relation.

The new trailer also revealed what looks to be the essential plot of Star Trek: Discovery: Burnham will somehow start the war between the Federation and the Klingons. Rainn Wilson’s version of the original series con artist Harry Mudd also made an appearance, sporting a huge beard in place of his twirling mustache from the classic show.
