If the imagined future of the original Blade Runner was cyberpunk noir, the new Blade Runner 2049 will get even bleaker. A new teaser has given a fresh look at the world where replicants are running amok, and the footage feels like a punch.
On Friday, Warner Bros. released a new 15-second teaser trailer for Blade Runner 2049. This has brand new footage, including Robin Wright’s character declaring that “there is an order to things,” while Ryan Gosling’s Officer K is bloody and beaten. While the imagery certainly mirrors the original Ridley Scott film, director Denis Villeneuve looks to be working with a color palette that is both depressing and striking at the same time. There’s a flying car, Gosling shooting, Gosling freaking out, and some kind of weird, surreal stage performance. If this tiny footage is any indication, this Blade Runner sequel might be a way grittier than the original and a lot more aggressive.
This teaser trailer is a preview for a longer, full length trailer, scheduled to drop on Monday, May 8. Watch the new footage below.
Blade Runner 2049 is out in wide release on October 6.
