Finally, Two 'Star Wars' Characters Are Not Related

Daisy Ridley confirmed at the MTV Movie Awards that 'Rogue One''s Jyn Erso is not her character's mother

Fan speculation has been swirling since the release of the trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story because the film features a female protagonist who looks a bit like a more recent Star Wars female protagonist. If there’s one thing we know about Star Wars, it’s that everyone is related in a way that matters a great deal. Well, that’s probably not the case for Jyn Erso, the character Felicity Jones will be playing. Daisy Ridley was cornered at the MTV Movie Awards, and suggests that we chill the hell out.

Ridley told MTV, “I’m not being funny, you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair it doesn’t mean she’s my mom.” Ridley doesn’t think we should care so much about the mystery of who Reys birth parents are. She also told MTV, “I think the amazing thing about [Episode VII] is that Finn and Rey don’t come from anywhere, and they find a place… So to me, its funny that people think it’s so important, because I don’t really think it is.”

Ridley also mentioned to MTV that she’s aware of who her character’s parents are and “it isn’t a big deal” leading us to believe that you can probably put your Han Solo/Luke Skywalker/Lando theories away for now.

This is a relief for fans, we think, because the bloodline twists have been used to the breaking point — and honestly if the new trilogy is just about famous characters’ kids having a row then why don’t we just make a Star Wars/Muppet Babies crossover and call it a day. We’re ready to embrace new blood and new backstories, just so long as Skywalker goes full Yoda.
