'Rouge One' is Trending on Twitter Because People Are Too Excited About 'Rogue One'

It's a spellcheck nightmare.

If elementary school taught you anything, it’s that spelling is difficult, and the QWERTY keyboard is a tricky thing to master. Pair that with the Twitter excitement over the new *Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ trailer and you get the largest collective example of typos maybe ever recorded. The internet is a messy place.

Disney and Lucasfilm wasted no time in letting the excitement over the home video release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens settle before dropping the first actual footage from the latest and first Star Wars anthology movie, which stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, the return of Mon Mothma, and Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, and Ben Mendelsohn. In their fanatic zeal, people just up and forgot how to spell the name of the movie they were so pumped to discuss on social media.

The mixup is understandable. It’s really just switching one letter, so we’ll let it slide for now and give fans the benefit of the doubt — that they know it’s “rogue” and not “rouge.” In the end it doesn’t matter if they typed “Rouge One” or “Rogue One,” so long as they got the word out about what looks like another win for the newly rebooted Star Wars saga.

First, watch the trailer again, and then check out some of the most notable social media misspelling of the kickass new Star Wars movie.

At least some people got the joke:

Rogue One hits theaters on December 16. “Rouge One” will be released in theaters hopefully never.
