'10 CLOVERFIELD LANE' TRAILER: Abrams' Secretly Makes 'Cloverfield’ Sequel
Seemingly out of nowhere, a major monster movie is slated for the spring.
To the surprise of many, many people, filmmaker J.J. Abrams has quietly put together a sequel to the 2008 monster movie Cloverfield , titled 10 Cloverfield Lane. The trailer ran unannounced in theaters before showings of Michael Bay’s 13 Hours. Here it is:
Remarkably, it was not only made on the DL, but features major actors John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Collider reports to have a direct response from Abrams on the subject:
“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”
Actor Winstead seems to be backing the sudden announcement:
Produced by Abrams and directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the film doesn’t appear to be a shaky-cam descendant of the original, and the trailer reveals zero monster looks. Here’s a Cloverfield refresher:
10 Cloverfield Lane has been announced for a March 11, 2016 theatrical release.
