8. District 9

October 1 (HBO Max)

Not the kind of sci-fi to watch if you’re just looking for a good time, District 9 is a harrowing apartheid allegory that’s as heartbreaking as it sounds. If you’re up for the heavy subject matter, it’s an excellent sci-fi drama you should see at least once.

7. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

October 1 (Netflix)

Everyone’s favorite irradiated reptiles return to Netflix this month. All three Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies from the ‘90s are streaming again, along with the significantly less fun 2014 reboot.

6. Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler

October 6 (HBO Max)

The latest season of Pennyworth premieres on HBO Max, and it’s debuting a ludicrous new subtitle. Season 3 moves the show from the ‘60s to the ‘70s, with former soldier Pennyworth still working for Bruce Wayne’s parents well before the birth of their Bat-baby.

4. Tiger & Bunny 2

October 7 (Netflix)

Netflix
3. Dracula Untold

October 16 (Netflix)

Dracula Untold is the Dracula retelling no one asked for, turning the famous bloodsucker into an ersatz superhero. It’s an odd choice that doesn’t really work, but its impressive action scenes and some inspired visuals make it a fun watch nonetheless.

Universal Pictures
2. Pokémon Ultimate Journeys

October 21 (Netflix)

Pokémon Ultimate Journeys, the 25th season of the Pokémon anime series, makes its U.S. debut this October. The first 12 episodes will hit Netflix on the 21st, with additional episodes coming throughout 2023.
