Behold a new Forspoken trailer in 17 otherworldly photos

In this third-person action-adventure from the studio behind Final Fantasy XV, a young woman named Frey is thrust into a dangerous and fantastical realm called Athia.

Here’s how it happens, as told through 17 bewildering and captivating images.

Why is Frey getting beaten up by a small group of people in this brief flashback?

At one point, Frey promises her pet Homer that they’ll get out of the city and “go somewhere that likes cats.” This sounds like a good idea.

Frey lives somewhere near the Holland Tunnel, presumably in the Soho area of Manhattan.

She sits atop a hotel sign lamenting her lot in life.

That’s when something strange happens.

She’s ripped through some kind of portal into another world.

See? “HOLLAND TUNNEL.”

Frey looks out over this strange world called Athia.

Rather quickly, she starts talking to a magical cuff that has appeared on here arm.

Frey’s companion “Cuff” is a magical, sentient bracelet of uncertain origin who helps Frey navigate through the sprawling landscapes of Athia.

Cuff gives Frey all sorts of magical skills, like the Bubble Beam attack from Pokémon.

Is that ... Flame Wheel?

Gust? Okay, these are all Pokémon attacks.

Frey can also do some pretty extreme magical parkour through the air and virtually any environment.

“Our land suffers,” this stranger says. “You are the only hope that we have.” She wants Frey to kill someone named Sila.

Frey can’t decide if this lady is sus or not.

As it turns out, Sila is very creepy and very bad.

Something tells us the first battle between Frey and Sila won’t end well for Frey...

Forspoken will be released in Spring 2022.
