Revealed at Sony’s September State of Play, Rise of the Ronin is developed by Team Ninja, the same studio behind Nioh and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin.

"In Rise of the Ronin, you will explore an evolving world as you fight to forge a new era for Japan."

The action-adventure is set in 1863 Japan. Though the game will inevitably draw a lot of comparisons to Ghost of Tsushima, know that this historical period is roughly 600 years later.

The trailer makes note of “those who cleave to the past” (like many samurai) and this young woman who seems caught between tradition and the future.

At the same time, we get “those who embrace the new” like this gun-toting Japanese warrior.
