Modder combines ‘Ocarina of Time’ and ‘Wind Waker’ into one game

You could call it “The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Waker.”

Modders are like modern-day magicians. They can combine two separate games and create one ostensibly cohesive world, even if it's for a small sliver of gameplay or (more likely) a short YouTube clip. Modder BigSharkZ combined The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker with a portion of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, to wonderful effect.

It took BigSharkZ two weeks to combine the two titles the result ended up including, "Link’s model as well as his items and some animations, Aryll into Saria, Mila into Malon, with multiple custom maps and other model changes, even a custom Navi actor!"

You can even fly around as a Cucco, if you’re into that sort of thing.

If you're a huge Zelda fan, you might be a little weirded out by the mixing up of visual themes here; BigSharkZ doesn't stick to Wind Waker's aesthetic but instead finds a common spot between it and Ocarina of Time.

“While it is not a full or brand new game, all that was showcased here will someday be made available in the form of a mod pack. This video was made in two weeks with very little sleep, as a proof of concept to show some of what can be done with Wind Waker modding.”

"However, please understand that this is a very large amount of work for a single person (over a hundred hours were spent working on this, for example) and that my free time is often limited, so it will take a while to have a proper release, especially when I have many other projects in the works," the modder added.

Fans have been experimenting with the Zelda-verse for years now. In the most recent example of visual toying-about, YouTube Channel Digital Dreams launched a video of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in magnificent 8K. The video showed the most minute attention to shadows, glimmering of dust mid-air, and other effects.

In some points of that video, you can see tufts of morning fog suspended in the air as Link walks past trees. It’s magical.

The things we do for love...

When you love a game, you'll go to great lengths to show its true beauty, including combining unlikely bedfellows like Ocarina of Time with Wind Waker. Here’s hoping it eventually gets released as something we can play.
