If BMW's CE 04 concept is the future of electric scooters, I'm in

The BMW Motorrad Definition CE 04 is a futuristic take on urban transportation.

BMW unveiled the BMW Motorrad Definition CE 04 earlier today at its #NextGen 2020, er, streamcast and it looks like something straight out of Akira.

Yeah, that looks good.

The BMW Motorrad Definition CE 04 is an updated vision of the aging BMW C Evolution concept that was first unveiled in 2013.

"Delivery. That'll be 50 credits."

PR state of mind

"The BMW Motorrad Definition CE 04 is the logical continuation of the electromobility strategy for urban conurbations and provides a concrete preview of what a contemporary production vehicle could look like..." said Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design at BMW Motorrad in a press release.

I'm not sure what that means, but the press release continues by stating that "while the BMW Motorrad Concept Link in 2017 still seemed like a vision far from the future, the BMW Motorrad Definition CE 04 in 2020 transfers the radical design of the Concept Link to production readiness with almost unchanged design."

Does that mean we'll see the Motorrad Definition CE 04 on the streets? Probably not, but the rest of the press release goes on to describe the almost Star Wars meets Mass Effect type of aesthetic we see here, and that's something we might ultimately see trickle down.

BMW provides no specs, only the cold assurance that this bike is, in fact, electric.

As is common in the age of 5G, BMW played up the "connected" aspects the CE 04. Apparently, this 10.25-inch display is the biggest ever to appear on a scooter, and while I'm not sure that's a statistic that we should judge a scooter by, I love the design nonetheless.

Do I want this?

Or something like it? Yes. There's something about today's "sportbike" look that doesn't appeal to me, and that's part of why I'm so interested in the recent explosion of the e-scrambler form factor. But this? This I would ride.

So moody. I love it.

"See you guys later, I'm going to buy a cybernetic arm on the black market."
