7 likely game reveals for the Persona 25th anniversary

It’s happening.

The Persona video game franchise turns 25 in 2021, and its developer is celebrating accordingly by teasing a number of upcoming projects.

For the anniversary, developer Atlus is announcing seven new Persona games between fall 2021 and fall 2022. Here are the most likely — and best — possibilities.

7. Persona 6

Atlus

We all love Persona 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. What can be better than 5? 6! Give us Persona 6 and please set it in a small town like Inaba. Tokyo is great, but gaming is oversaturated with Tokyo.

6. Persona 5 Arena

After Persona 4, Atlus released Persona 4 Arena, a fighting game that provided narrative updates on the Persona 3 cast. Logically, Persona 5 Arena could do the same for Persona 4.

5. Persona 3 remake

Atlus

Persona 3 ushered in a new era of Persona games helmed by Katsura Hashino. It’s currently only playable on PS3 or Vita. A full-on remake for modern consoles would be a great way to close out Hashino’s era.

4. Persona 2 remake HD Remaster
Atlus

There are two games in the Persona 2 story – Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. They’re only both available in English if you play the PS1 version. In Japan, a full remake was produced in 2012. That remake needs to be remastered for modern consoles.

3. Persona Dating

Atlus

The Persona series has taken quite a bit from dancing and fighting games based on anime, so why not a dating-based visual novel? It could utilize Persona’s socialization mechanics while giving you the chance to date any character from the Persona franchise.

2. Another Crossover game

Atlus

Tokyo Mirage Sessions was technically a Shin Megami Tensei game, but there was a lot of Persona DNA in it. Atlus should make another one and base it on Persona.

1. Persona 5 Civil Warriors

Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. (LC-USZC4-2088)

Persona 5 Strikers almost took the Phantom Thieves to the warring states period. Randomly placing the Persona 5 cast in the American Civil War or some other time period and giving it Musou-style gameplay would be a bold way to shake things up.

We’ll hear more about the first of the seven new Persona projects in September.
