Volcon's fat tire e-motorcycle hype explained in 5 key specs

Relative to competitors, the Grunt is a reasonably priced electric motorbike for ripping on backroads.

Volcon

Whether you’re an urban commuter or a hobbyist, there’s an electric two-wheeler for just about everyone nowadays. But if you’re looking to take your journey off-road, there’s one newcomer that’s really kicking up some dust...

Volcon

We’re talking about Volcon’s Grunt

Here’s everything you need to know about this (semi)affordable e-motorcycle and its off-road chops.

Volcon

75 miles

The Grunt will get 75 miles on a single charge.

Volcon

With up to 75 miles of range, you’ll get the most out of a single charge on Volcon’s Grunt, which is quite a range for an off-road-only electric bike. With the ease and relative quiet of having no gears, gas, or clutch, there’s a good chance you might just want to take an extended ride out into the backwoods, anyway.

3

The Grunt will have three different ride modes.

Volcon

The Grunt will have three different ride modes: Stroll, which is the lowest speed with the highest range, Explore, which falls somewhere in the middle of range and speed, and Sport, which is the fastest setting for when you really want to let loose.

Volcon

40 mph

That's how fast Volcon's Grunt can go.

Volcon

While the Grunt might not be the fastest electric motorbike on the scene, its top speed of 40 mph is plenty of juice for tearing up a dirt road or flying up a hillside. As an added bonus, the Grunt, with its chain drive, can also tow up to 750 lbs.

Volcon

26"

That's how tall the Grunt's tires are.

Volcon

Part of what separates the Grunt from other electric bike competitors is its oversized tires, which measure more than two feet high. Knobby treads also make it less liable to slip and slide, and ideal for towing.

Volcon

$7,995

The Grunt's $8,000 price tag is competitive compared to comparable bikes.

While $8,000 is still a lot of money on a vehicle that you can’t even legally ride on the road, it’s still fairly competitive in the world of off-road electric motorcycles. Competitors like the Cake Kalk INK SL and Zero’s FX run for $10,500 and $8,995 respectively.

December

Non-preorder bikes will begin shipping in December.
