OnePlus is known for working with other brands — for example, a collab with CD Projekt Red that brought a OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 edition to fruition. These partnerships are a big part of what keeps OnePlus in the spotlight, and if the latest dose of smartphone nostalgia is any indication, they might just keep rolling in.
As evidenced by a recent collaboration with Casio watches, the Pac-Man brand is as hot as ever, and now OnePlus is getting in on the action with this special edition OnePlus Nord 2 decked out in Pac-Man branding on the inside and outside.
The phone uses a dual-film rear cover, with the inner phosphorescent film revealing a Pac-Man-inspired maze that glows in the dark. The maze cleverly hides the OnePlus logo and the word “Nord.” A translucent Pac-Man case is also included, which features the Pac-Man logo, the ghosts (Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde), and other game references.
While the external Pac-Man branding is sure to be a conversation starter, there are also loads of Pac-Man references inside the phone. Special animations appear when turning on the phone, charging it, or unlocking it via fingerprint. You can also apply various static or dynamic Pac-Man wallpapers. OnePlus’ icons are replaced with pixelated ones to fit the Pac-Man theme and there’s are also Pac-Man-inspired ringtones, photo stickers, and a camera filter.
Some of the goodies, such as wallpapers, ringtones, stickers, can be unlocked by completing challenges. Doing tasks as simple as charging the phone for the first time can unlock easter eggs. What you don’t have to unlock is the pre-installed Pac-Man 256 game, though it’s not exclusive and can be downloaded for free on any Android phone.
The price is just slightly more expensive than the non-Pac-Man edition (€529 vs. €499 ). If you’re planning on getting the OnePlus Nord 2 Pac-Man edition, it’s worth noting it’s only available in Europe, the UK, and India at the moment. If you live elsewhere, you’ll have to make like Pac-Man and gobble one up secondhand online before a fellow Namco Stan gets to it first.
