LG's color-changing smart fridge makes your kitchen undeniably moody

The MoodUp refrigerator gives you hundreds of color combinations and a built-in Bluetooth speaker.

Half refrigerator; half disco ball; fully unnecessary. LG revealed its MoodUP smart refrigerator that has color-changing LED door panels and a built-in Bluetooth speaker. This is definitely one of LG’s more experimental appliances, but we’ve seen some funky TV designs from them in the past.

If you thought smart fridges were a tad unnecessary, the MoodUP takes it to another level. You can choose from 22 colors for the upper panels and 19 colors for the lower panel, giving you a ton of options to set whatever mood you want.

LG even has preset color themes for the indecisive, including Season, Place, Mood, and Pop. The Season setting matches the different seasons of the year, while the Mood option uses softer colors for a chill ambiance.LG

The light-up fridge doors may be a little over-the-top, but we can get behind a built-in Bluetooth speaker. The LEDs even sync up with the music to nail the vibe you’re going for.

There is some functionality behind the LED panels. They blink to let you know if the fridge door has been open too long. They also automatically blink when someone is approaching it, thanks to its motion sensors. At night, the freezer door will glow to help those in search of late night munchies.

Of course, you can always opt out of the colorful display whenever you feel like and just go with the traditional gray and white look.

September debut

This is a smart fridge at the end of the day, so you can expect voice recognition capabilities, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. LG didn’t release any pricing or availability details yet, but it’ll put the MoodUP smart fridge on display at the IFA 2022 in Berlin from September 2 to 6.
