Huge leak shows off notch-free, titanium iPhone 14

The iPhone 13 will be announced in a few days, but it's going to be old news if this massive leak on the iPhone 14 coming in 2022 is genuine.

Apple has long been known for its secrecy, but this year has been especially trying, with leaks of the iPhone 13, Apple Watch Series 7, and MacBook Pro popping up throughout the year. With the iPhone 13 reveal scheduled for September 14, the ship has sprouted another leak.

The big leak

Like many previous Apple leaks this one comes from none other than Jon Prosser and his site, Front Page Tech. Prosser’s partner in crime, Ian Zelbo, created renders of the alleged iPhone 14 based on schematics seen by Prosser. The renders depict the “iPhone 14 Pro Max,” which most likely will differ from the less expensive variants. Moreover, the concept iPhone 14 can be viewed in AR using iPhones and iPads.

The basic design of the iPhone 14 will reportedly retain the flat and rounded design on the current iPhone 12 and upcoming iPhone 13. Prosser says the one difference is the thickness of the iPhone 14.

Bump begone

The most striking update to the iPhone 14 might be its missing camera bump. According to Prosser, Apple will remove the bump by making the phone thicker. You can’t really see it in the renders since there is nothing to compare it to, but Prosser says “this is a thick boy”. Similar to the iPhone 13, the triple camera setup appears to have a similar layout.

With the thickness of the new phone reportedly covering the bump, there is also the advantage of possibly including a larger battery. Prosser did not have any information regarding internals, but there’s a good chance the thicker design will accommodate a larger battery.

Taking it down a notch

Another aesthetically unpleasant design also allegedly going away on the iPhone 14: the notch. The iPhone 13 is supposed to have a smaller notch. But for 2022, Apple will reportedly switch to a hole punch selfie camera according to Prosser. Per a patent, the Face ID sensors could be moved underneath the display. Prosser says that non-Pro models may have the notch, but it’s not confirmed.

Small observations:

  • No USB-C (Lightning again)
  • Round volume buttons
  • Titanium edges
  • Side-facing Touch ID sensor

Though the under-display Touch ID feature and pericope camera probably won’t make their way onto the iPhone 13, the iPhone 14 could include both. As we get closer to September 2022, further leaks should fill in the blanks. But that’s still a year out!

Final Final Almost Final(1).PSD

While still a year away from the announcement of the iPhone 14, Prosser's sources are confident that the final design will, for the most part, reflect the renders leaked this week.
