Automatic device switching

What it is: AirPods will now seamlessly jump between devices depending on the situation. The feature will also work on the Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro, and Beats Solo Pro.

Why it's cool: Sitting on your Mac and want to take an iPhone call? This new feature will let you make the jump without any hassle. AirPods have made a reputation as an easy-to-use set of wireless headphones, and this will only reinforce that.

Dynamic head tracking and spatial audio

What it is: The AirPods Pro will now track your head movements using its built-in sensors and adjust the audio accordingly. This will be used to adjust the frequencies going into each ear, changing the location of the sounds to make it seem more immersive.

Why it's cool: The technology should enable movie-like surround sound, allowing users to take full advantage of 5.1 and 7.1 sound titles.

New developer tools

What it is: Developers will be able to use a new AirPods Motion application programming interface to track the wearer's movements.

Why it's cool: This could make for far more immersive applications, leveraging the AirPods themselves as a new, wearable sensor.

tvOS audio sharing

What it is: The new version of tvOS will bring audio sharing to AirPods, meaning two sets of headphones can directly connect to the Apple TV at once.

Why it's cool: You'll be able to enjoy the latest movies with a friend, all at high volume without disturbing the neighbours.
