How to make Spotify your default music app in iOS 14.5 beta

If you're one of the (likely many) people who are excited about this long-awaited concession from Apple, we're here to tell you how to make the switch from the Apple Music default after downloading the iOS 14.5 public beta. NurPhoto/NurPhoto/Getty Images

Before we start..

It's worth noting that iOS 14.5 is still in beta, meaning features, including this one, are still in flux. That also means there's a chance that the final version might have a different process, and seeing as how the method we're about to discuss incorporates a somewhat stilted use of Siri, signs point to simplification in the future. The key to making this work...

Use voice commands to summon Siri to play a song or artist. This pulls out a drop-down menu with a list of services that play music on your phone.

Here's what that should look like.

Tap "yes" to allow Siri to access the data on Spotify, or whichever app you choose.

If all goes according to plan, iOS 14.5 will pull up your requested artist or song, and in the future, your choice should dictate which app launches. Shutterstock
