Xbox celebrates 20 years in Scotland with new tartan plaid controller

The custom offering was put together to celebrate 20 years of the Xbox's launch in Scotland.

With the 20th anniversary of the Xbox’s launch in Scotland, Microsoft is commemorating the occasion with the help of Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers and a custom controller adorned with a tartan plaid that uses the console’s color scheme.

There is a level of prestige when it comes to the custom plaid design that was used for this controller — not only has Gordon Nicolson made tartan for the Scotland national soccer team, but the Xbox-themed pattern was endorsed by the Scottish Tartans Authority and has been entered into The Scottish Register of Tartan.

“It’s certainly a collaboration that hadn’t sprung to mind for us, connecting kilts and games consoles, but we actually have many shared values – innovation, expression of creativity and a sense of heritage.”

The design was produced and woven together by Lochcarron, the oldest weaving mill in Scotland, located within the Scottish borders town of Selkirk.Xbox

For anyone interested in getting their own tartan plaid controller, they can enter a sweepstakes by following @Xbox on Twitter and then re-tweeting one of their promotional posts. The contest will last until May 3 and winners will received a single controller worth $100.
