6 of the biggest next-gen launch titles

Fear not, it's not all remakes and ports come console launch season.

Watch Dogs: Legion

The new era of consoles is almost here, but games have a little bit of catching up to do. Development delays caused in part by the pandemic have already pushed back major titles like Halo: Infinite leaving the release roster of games for Microsoft and Sony's next-gen consoles feeling a little light.

That doesn't mean all is lost when it comes to major releases, however. Here are six of the biggest games that will be ready this holiday season.

Watch Dogs: Legion (PS5 and Xbox)

Set in London and features some pretty nifty co-op gameplay and the ability to recruit citizens in your fight against a dystopic surveillance state, Watch Dogs: Legion will release on October 29.

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla (PS5 and Xbox)

The next installment of Assasin's Creed follows an alternative history of Vikings invading Britain and casts players as Eivor, a raider who becomes involved in a conflict between the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Templar Order. Ubisoft has already released 30 mins of Valhalla's gameplay.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Xbox)

It's no Halo, but the eighth installment of Yakuza is coming to next-gen Xbox consoles on launch day. The game will stay true to the Yakuza series' spirit with one major exception: gameplay will be a turn-based system as opposed to the beat the previous games' "beat em' up" style.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales (PS5)

Spider-Man is back for the next generation consoles and slated to be released as a launch title for the PlayStation 5. Sony has already shown off some of the gameplay in a major event and it's safe to say that from what we've seen, this game uses next-gen graphics to their full potential.

Bugsnax (PS5)

An action-adventure game dripping with enticing character design and personality, Bugsnax looks cute as hell. You're a journalist invited to an island by a mysterious explorer to document the half-bug, half-snack flora and fauna. It might not be the most flashy game for showing off next-gen graphics, but boy does it bode well for plush toy sales.

The Medium (Xbox)

While this game isn't entirely new (it was released in December and is being re-mastered for the Xbox Series X), this could be an upgrade worth revisiting. The Xbox's power and ray-tracing abilities look set to bring a whole new dynamic to The Medium's brand of psychological horror. We can't wait.
