Watch a YouTuber mod AirTags to make a card that fits in your wallet

Finally, you can use Apple's AirTags to find all your lost credit cards.

Apple's long-awaited trackers, AirTags, are pretty handy — just ask, well, us. Despite that handiness, however, there’s still at least one thing they can’t do, and that’s fit in your wallet.

Or can they?

In this video, YouTuber Andrew Ngai shows how, with a little (okay, maybe a lot) of hardware modification and a 3D printer, you can jerry-rig Apple’s trackers to fit in a card that easily slides into your wallet.

Ngai’s mod is not for the faint of heart. Transforming the somewhat bulbous AirTag into something that slides into a wallet involves almost a complete teardown of the tracker.

Just watch Ngai heat off the plastic housing.

And some soldering.

Ngai also had to 3D print his own custom card for the mod so that the AirTags’ battery and guts can sit side-by-side rather than on top of each other — a move that allowed the YouTuber to reduce the overall height of the tracker.

What’s most impressive about Ngai’s mod is that he manages to tear apart the AirTags without breaking anything, rewire them accordingly, and ultimately...

Voilà!

Unfortunately, unless you’re willing to get your hands a little dirty, there’s no way to procure a card-shaped version of an AirTag — or at least not yet. Competitors like Tile have made wallet-centric trackers for a while now, which means if AirTags are a success (they already kind of are) we’ll likely get more variations in the future.

Until then, we recommend either holding onto your wallet for dear life... or learning how to solder.
