Samsung is cooking up a few new foldable screens

The tech giant has some interesting plans for its foldable (and slidable) future.

Samsung might have some innovative foldables on the way.

In a showcase from Samsung Display spotted by SamMobile, the tech giant gave a look at some never-before-seen foldable prototypes that could potentially capitalize on the commercial success of phones like the Galaxy Z Fold and the clamshell-style Z Flip.

Some of them are pretty rad.

For example...

S-Foldable OLED panel

The panel that folds so nice you can bend it twice. Samsung could use the new S-Foldable panel for a foldable phablet. When collapsed, it would stack up for as a standard display, but when unfurled, it would expand into a 7.2-inch, big chonkin’ phablet.

Slideables

It’s not all about folding per se, there’s also a slidable display, that slips out horizontally to provide more screen real estate. This form factor — like the multi-fold display — has been the subject of rumors for a while now, so it’s nice to see Samsung finally putting some official weight behind a unique concept.

Foldable tablets?

This 17-inch foldable OLED display is designed specifically for foldable tablets. The idea here is that it could expand into a monitor with a 4:3 aspect ratio, making it a nice middle ground between laptop and tablet.

As prototypes, there’s of course no guarantee that any of these displays will find their way into a real, functioning Samsung device, but clearly the company is at least thinking about expanding its lineup of foldables in some capacity. Personally...
