People are creating bizarre videos of Mickey Mouse rapping songs from the likes of Lil Tjay and Bizzy Banks using 3D social app IMVU.


Pop cultural entities have converged in increasingly bizarre ways over the last couple of decades, and one of the most recent examples of this convergence features Mickey Mouse avatars rapping and dancing along to contemporary rap songs.

Users create the Mickey Mouse avatars through IMVU — an online metaverse and social media network that allows people to customize digital avatars with purchasable clothing and accessories.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when the trend started, but TikToks incorporating the IMVU avatars started to surface this March.

Given the viral nature of these videos, it makes sense that users have created them in order to generate some kind of self-promotion for their own music. It’s no secret that TikTok has become an avenue for major labels to promote their artists by trying to get challenges to take off but the Mickey Mouse raps feel like the opposite side of that coin.
