Apple announces 16-inch MacBook Pro with (hopefully) a better keyboard

It boasts the largest Retina display yet for a notebook

Apple

Apple has announced a new MacBook Pro with a 16-inch Retina display and up to 80 percent faster performance. Most importantly, the laptop has a new keyboard with scissor-style keys that have more travel, instead of the flat “butterfly” keys on the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pros, which remain unpredictably unreliable.

Goodbye butterfly keyboard— In its obsessive attempt at making MacBooks thinner and lighter, Apple saddled its laptops with keyboards that consistently broke down.

The so-called “Magic Keyboard” on the new MacBook Pro marks a dramatic return to function, with a redesigned scissor mechanism and 1mm travel. Apple says the new design will make for a “more satisfying key feel.”

Even more pro — With 8-core processors, up to 8GB VRAM, up to 8TB of SSD storage and 64GB of fast memory, the new MacBook Pro is not for the average person who’s just browsing the web or watching YouTube videos.

The new MacBook Pro is performance-built for real professionals — video creators, digital artists, and anybody who will benefit from the larger and more color-accurate display, and the powerful GPU.

Price and availability — The 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at $2,399 and launches later this week. Orders are now open on Apple’s website.
