The ending of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ put Marvel in a tight spot because if the studio announces any future movies before Avengers 4 comes out, it’ll be a spoiler. The fact that there are already Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Guardians of the Galaxy sequels confirmed would seem to indicate that the heroes’ “deaths” will be undone. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is aware of this, and says that after Thanos has been dealt with, the future of the MCU will become much, much more clear.
“Marketing’s coming up with all sorts of things,” Feige told ComicBook when asked how Marvel would promote Spider-Man: Far From Home without spoiling Avengers 4. “How to debut [those plans], how to debut Captain Marvel, lots of opportunities for fun, exciting stuff coming up. And after Avengers 4, being less cagey about it.”
Feige was speaking at a press event for Ant-Man and the Wasp, which does not provide the same sort of spoiler headache that Spider-Man and Black Panther 2 do, since it is set before the events of Infinity War. Same with Captain Marvel, which takes place in the ‘90s. Both films will tie into Infinity War and set up Avengers 4, but they won’t spoil it.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Far From Home’s marketing push will be in full swing as Avengers 4 is getting ready from release, since Spidey comes out on July 5 — just a few months after Avengers 4’s May 3 premiere. If any of the Spider-Man trailers want to, uh, show Spider-Man in them, then they’ll inherently be spoiling the end of Avengers 4.
After Avengers 4, though, Feige is saying, this won’t be a problem. That likely means that we can expect Marvel to announce or confirm a bunch of movies down the pipeline. However, Feige wouldn’t confirm the rumored Black Widow movie as one of these while speaking to ComicBook, nor would he say which characters to expect.
“”There are a lot of potential characters that are among that list,” Feige said.
