Kylo's Dreadnaught in 'Last Jedi' Isn't As Big As Darth Vader's

Star Wars

The First Order will wield a ton of new weapons in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, including an enormous new take on the classic Star Destroyer: the First Order Dreadnaught. It’s too bad that the size of Kylo Ren’s Dreadnaught pales in comparison to his grandfather’s massive Super Star Destroyer.

Revealed in Wednesday’s episode of The Star Wars Show series, this new superweapon looks like a sleeker, more efficient version of its 30-year-old counterpart: the Empire-era Star Destroyers.

The First Order Dreadnought looks like it will be the heavy duty firepower wielded by the First Order in The Last Jedi. This updated version of a Star Destroyer has two massive orbital auto cannons and a ton of smaller cannons on the top of its pizza-shaped hood. Perhaps they learned from the Empire’s mistakes and decided to avoid putting a ton of easy-to-hit targets on the top. It’s also a good idea to not invest all their resources into a planet-killing giant Death Star that was soundly destroyed.

Check it out the new Dreadnaught here:

That’s 25,162.8 feet of First Order destruction, which is really big but not quite as big as the Super Star Destroyers seen in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Those were estimated to be 19,000 meters in length, which is about two and a half times the size of the Dreadnaught. Still, the average Star Destroyers — like the one scavenged by Rey in The Force Awakens — were only 1,600 meters.

The First Order Dreadnaught will be accompanied by a new four-legged walker in The Last Jedi: The AT-M6 walker, which stands for “all terrain megacaliber six walker.” Why six? It has a more “simian-like” gait as opposed to the AT-AT’s elephant-like movements, but it still has only four legs supporting the massive, forward-pointing laser located on its back. Think of it as mobile heavy artillery used by the First Order that’s way bigger than the walkers you remember from Empire Strikes Back.
