13th 'Doctor Who' Will Be Officially Revealed on July 16

Regeneration is coming for Doctor Who. On July 16, the BBC will officially announce the new face of the Time Lord known as the Doctor.

On Friday, in a cryptic Twitter video, the BBC showed the number 13 in a series of different locales, from New York City, to the British Prime Minister’s Office of 10 Downing Street, and more. All the while, lighting crackles around the Doctor’s key to the TARDIS. And fans of the show hold their breath: will the heroic character finally be not a white guy? Could a female Doctor finally materialize after that golden regeneration energy subsides?

The announcement will be made by the BBC after the Men’s Wimbledon Men’s Final. The match will happen at 8am EST, so the announcement could come at any point after 9 am EST. In previous years, a large television special has introduced the new Doctor, as was the case with Peter Capaldi in 2013.

At this point, the betting odds of who will become the next Doctor aren’t entirely clear. But the two favorites are undoubtedly Kris Marshall and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

The next episode of Doctor Who, which will feature this newly announced Time Lord will debut on December 25, 2017.
