Become Spidey in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ VR Trailer

Ever wanted to do whatever a spider can? Now you’ll get your chance. In conjunction with the upcoming release of Spider-Man: Homecoming starring Tom Holland, fans can become the ultimate web-slinger in the Spider-Man: Homecoming Virtual Reality Experience developed by CreateVR for Vive, Oculus, and PlayStation VR. Oh, and you’ll get to fight the Vulture too.

Much like Sony’s recent VR Experience Ghostbusters (also made by CreateVR), players are given access to Peter Parker’s ultra sophisticated, made-by-Tony Stark spider suit for a spin. In the trailer, gameplay footage reveals mechanics like grabbing objects with spider webs and some building-to-building swinging throughout Peter’s neighborhood in Queens. Towards the end, an “alien energy” signature emerges, and it’s none other than the Vulture, who will be played by Michael Keaton in the new film.

Also in the trailer, Tom Holland appears as himself explaining to players that they are given an “extremely rare opportunity” to become Spider-Man. But not permanently, of course. You’re not filming Avengers: Infinity War in London right now, so you’ll have to give the suit back. Sorry.

But, one of the neatest things about this Spider-Man VR is that players will also have to “put on” the suit and mask. It may not be the wildest thing to do in the VR Experience, but it’s an extra step that really lets players feel the authenticity. Having played the John Wick VR Experience, John Wick Chronicles, I can attest it’s almost more exciting to actually “pick up” guns than it is to fire them, a mechanic not even today’s sophisticated FPS games like Destiny or Halo 5 have achieved.

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7.
