Here's the New Pottemore Version of Severus Snape

Severus Snape’s notoriously greasy hair has provided joke fodder for two generations of Harry Potter characters, from the Marauders to the Weasley twins. And in the latest version of the character in a new illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, his hair is the greasiest yet.

The new edition of the book, which will be out in October, will feature 115 new images. Illustrated by artist Jim Kay, the images will include characters, iconic locations like Hogwarts, and iconic plot points like The Knight Bus. On Tuesday, Pottermore teased many of these new illustrations and the new Snape is the most interesting. He looks like a hybrid of Alan Rickman’s version as portrayed in the movies and the illustrations in the novels.

Recall that in the American version of the books, Mary GrandPré’s take on Snape had a goatee and looked an awful lot like Aladdin’s Jafar. Everything about his aesthetic looked villainous.

Alan Rickman’s version was given a villainous cast simply because of Rickman’s trademark voice. Hair and voice aside, he looked more morose than evil.

But this newest version of Snape casts him as a relatively innocuous looking guy who just happens to need some shampoo. Check it out below:

Although he doesn’t really look like Ezra Miller from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, they have a similar narrow cast to their faces. So, the theory that Credence Barebone is Snape’s grandfather remains strong.

The Prisoner of Azkaban Illustrated Edition will be out in October 2017.
