There’s a little bit of trouble on the set of Deadpool 2. The film is still set for a 2018 release, but it looks like it will be moving forward without Tim Miller, director of the first raunchy, box office-smashing installment. Miller had been working on developing the script for Deadpool 2, but Deadline confirmed Saturday morning that “a series of creative differences” with star Ryan Reynolds caused the director to walk away from the project.
It was announced in April, just two months after Deadpool sweeped the box-office, grossing a total of $782 million worldwide, that the movie would get a sequel. Deadpool 2 will be written by the film’s original screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and Ryan Reynolds is signed-on to reprise his role as the titular hero. So far few details about the plot of Deadpool 2 have been released, but producer Simon Kinberg said in August that, much like the original, the sequel will be “a spoof of superhero sequels.”
According to Deadline, the split was “amicable” and Miller is expected to continue working with Fox on an adaptation of the tech thriller Influx. So far there have been no reports on who the new director for the film might be, but given the first Deadpool was the highest grossing R-rated film of all time, Fox shouldn’t have much trouble finding someone to take Miller’s place.
