'Deadpool 2' Trailer Secrets: Colossus Actor Confirms Fan Theory

Is that Shatterstar behind Deadpool and Terry Crews?

Marvel fans got a mouthful of Cable in the newest trailer for Deadpool 2, hitting theaters on May 18, but Josh Brolin’s cyborg mutant wasn’t the only treat. In the Spanish version of the trailer, actor Stefan Kapičić returns as Colossus, the towering mutant of steel, and he gets his butt groped by Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool. But the actor behind Colossus says there are a few more familiar mutants coming to the highly anticipated sequel.

On Wednesday, speaking to Inverse, Kapičić unpacked what Deadpool and Colossus’s relationship looks like, as well as hinting at the film debut of X-Force member Shatterstar. The new mutant stands behind someone who Kapičić was unable to officially confirm was Terry Crews, but very clearly looks like Terry Crews, the star of Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine and a former spokesperson for Old Spice.

In the Spanish trailer for Deadpool 2, Ryan Reynolds gets handsy with Colossus during an embrace. “I was surprised they put that in the trailer,” Kapičić says, laughing. “That’s the relationship beween Deadpool and Colossus. Colossus is trying to make him a better person, to stop being childish. Stop doing crazy things. This scene we see in the trailer, that’s the picture of their relationship.”

Kapičić says the dynamic between Colossus and Deadpool hasn’t changed much in the two years since we last saw them. “Deadpool is hard to change. Colossus is an old school superhero. He’s trying to make [Deadpool] a better man, an X-Man. But the thing is, Deadpool is doing his own thing.” Kapičić says this makes Colossus “nervous” in the sequel.

In the trailer for 'Deadpool 2,' fans believe they are seeing two big surprises: Terry Crews, and X-Force mutant Shatterstar.

Kapičić also says that Deadpool 2 will be packed with new characters, including new mutants. The morning the trailer premiered, the internet was surprised to see Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Terry Crews in the film, who was previously unannounced and wasn’t even listed on the IMDB page. Kapičić wouldn’t say definitively that it’s Terry Crews, but admits that you can see him.

“That’s not CGI of Terry Crews, that is Terry Crews,” Kapičić says. “You can see it clearly.” Kapičić then follows up with a surprise: “You can see behind him, Shatterstar, a really cool thing for people to geek out.”

In the trailer, an obscured figure dressed in all white stands behind Deadpool and Terry Crews’s mystery mutant (Hammer? G.W. Bridge?) in a dropship. Fans online initially speculated if the mystery guy in white was Shatterstar, who in the comics is an ally of Cable as a founding member of the X-Force. Their instincts were correct.

According to Kapcic, post-production on Deadpool 2 is still underway. In regards to Colossus, who is brought to life onscreen through CGI work, Kapcic says he was kept offscreen because the CGI is still incomplete. (This arduous process of superhero filmmaking is referenced in the trailer, with Josh Brolin still wearing a green sleeve for his cyborg arm.)

“Two days ago I was working for like, seven, eight hours a day with Ryan. We are still in the process of making it [as] perfect we can,” he says. He also hints that there process has become more intense for Colossus due to his significant role in Deadpool 2.

“Colossus is one of the most important characters, besides Deadpool and Cable, and you will see why,” Kapičić teases. “ Colossus is important for this story. People who love Colossus are going to be crazy. All these new characters, so many surprises in this trailer. This is just the beginning.”

Deadpool 2 will be released in theaters on May 18.
