Finn might finally be a “big deal in the Resistance” in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. At least, he will be in comparison to Rose Tico, Kelly Marie Tran’s Resistance mechanic character who Finn (John Boyega) will be teaming up with in Last Jedi.
Tran spoke with Entertainment Weekly at PEOPLE’S Ones to Watch event, where she gave up some much-needed information on her character Rose.
“Rose is smart and she’s confident and she’s loyal,” Tran said. “She’s going to be such a cool character because she’s someone who isn’t a model. She’s not a superhero. She’s just kind of an everyday person, and that’s something special about her. She’s someone who is able to face her fears in the face of adversity even though she kind of is a background player in the Resistance.”
So, it seems that Rose will be special in The Last Jedi because she’s … not all that special. Unlikely heroes are a staple in the Star Wars universe, though, so her role isn’t too much of a surprise. If a farm boy can become a legendary Jedi, then a humble mechanic can become a hero.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters on December 15.
